A king is not an alien ruler in the Ukrainian history. The adoption of a kingly rule is associated in our historical tradition mostly with Daniel of Galicia who became a king in the mid-13th century. However, our ancestors lived under the rule of kings from the mid-14th century until the end of the 18th century. These monarchs were mostly Polish, a few were Hungarian, but they were the sovereigns of our ancestors at the time when the countries that included areas of Ukraine were not nation-states.
